RADIO KWIZERA

JRS Radio Kwizera, popularly known as 'JRS - RK', is a Community Based Radio Station whose listenership has grown to over 10 million from 5 million in 2005. The Radio has grown its coverage area from only covering parts of Kagera and Kigoma to now over 900 sq Kms in Northwestern Tanzania, i.e., covering 5 regions in Northwestern Tanzania, including most parts of Kagera, Kigoma, Geita, Shinyanga, and Mwanza regions. Also, the radio covers the eastern parts of Rwanda, Burundi (Muyinga, Ngozi, Kayanza, Gitega, Kirundo town, Bujumbura city and parts of Muramya region) and in the eastern part of DR Congo (Fizi, parts of Tanganyika province and Uvira). The Radio is part of the works of The Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) which is a Catholic Religious Congregation in the world. Radio Kwizera’s license allows it to broadcast in Swahili, English, French and Kirundi. Although Swahili is the common language used, Kirundi, French, and English are used when the Radio desires reaching out to targeted beneficiaries who speak such languages. MISSION: The Mission of Radio Kwizera is to promote peace, reconciliation, education, and development-oriented programs by empowering her audience with the values, knowledge, and skills needed for a peaceful co-existence and prosperous life. VISION: Radio Kwizera envisions a society that supports equal opportunity for everyone -where everyone has fair access to information and adequate human capabilities to make informed decisions. Radio Kwizera believes that an empowered society offers opportunity to individuals to be agents of change and their own development. The Radio achieves the above by defending and promoting a culture of peace that enhances individual and collective responsibility to foster development and peaceful co-existence in the Great Lakes Region.
